Visiting Pompeii

While visiting Pompeii there was just something so overwhelming by the place, this is down to known the tragic disaster that happened here.

Going around seeing all the houses they lived in was odd, I didn’t realise the houses were that small, obviously there isn’t much to them to start of with but as we had our tour guide, she told us so many things about how they lived.

What amazed me was seeing some of the shops that were uncovered still had the original signs of what that shop was called, they have glass over it to protect them.

The gym there was the same, with colour on the walls and art work still well preserved. It’s crazy to think that the art, colour and signage were still on the walls and the floors considering it had all that hot ash burying it.

While walking along the original paths of Pompeii, you could see where they use to pull their horse and cart, as you could see in the cobles, there were two straight indents going all the way from the top to  bottom.

While coming to a stop, going through some of the old ruin houses, our guide showed us an oven that was discovered and its still all intact, even with the coloured bricks!

What really moved me was seeing those that were covered in ash, they were still in the same position when it hit them.

Too think that their bones are still in the cast shells amazes you and just makes you wonder how the cast of the shell hasn’t broke away.

We got to see the most famous cast, known as the “Coughing man”. It didn’t feel real known someone remains were inside this cast.

Another one we got to see, was a child and dog cast.

Pompeii is a spectacular place to go visit and is so worth it.

It really is mind blowing seeing it all and taken it all in, known how these people lived and how their lives came to an awful end for them.

I would go back to visit Pompeii as we couldn’t cover all of the town in the short time we had.

Some tips for visiting Pompeii:

  • make sure to take plenty of water with you
  • have sun cream on and take it with you
  • wear light clothing
  • wear a hat as there isn’t any shelter at all in Pompeii
